TIM ATLAS

California singer/songwriter Tim Atlas infuses his heartfelt indie acoustic stylings with the groove of Hall & Oates. Born Tim Ferguson in Oakland, the San Jose-based artist grew up surrounded by music, joining marching band, jazz band, and drumline while also teaching himself guitar. After graduating with a degree in photography, he worked in recording studios as an engineer. He had an early stint in the alt-rock band April Chase before he released his solo debut EP, 2013's Lost in the Waiting. The six-song set showcased a sound similar to John Mayer and Ed Sheeran filtered through Phoenix or Borns. In 2015, Atlas caught a major break after he was chosen by Gwen Stefani to join her team on the ninth season of television singing competition The Voice. Selected based on his rendition of Ed Sheeran's "Give Me Love," Atlas made it to the seventh episode, where he was absorbed into Pharrell Williams' team. Although he was eliminated in the 19th episode, Atlas went on to release a series of singles in 2016 that featured more textured production and atmospherics, like "Compromised" and "The Other Side." - Neil Z.
